The Secret Effects of Music

Your life will become a reflection of the type of music you listen to the most.

Imagine yourself walking around your workplace with the lyrics of Kelis's song "I hate you so much right now!" playing in your head phones. You are grooving to it and dancing at your desk really feeling it. You take your headphones off but the song is still repeating in your head and then a co-worker does something that pisses you off. The words to that song will quickly come to mind. If you don't have a high level of self control you may even tell this person how much you hate them out loud. There is a perfectly logical explanation for this.

The Secret is suggestion!

Music is one of the most powerful suggestive tools that exist.

Any marketing professional can tell you how powerful suggestion is. Suggestion directly impacts ones thoughts which in turn impacts how they act. This is why Bank of America spent $1.9 billion on advertising in 2010 according to Business Insider. They also brought in $111.3 billion in revenue that year.

Of course the most effective ad campaigns have music in them. Better yet a smart company pays Drake a few millions to rap about Sprite in one of his songs. Let's talk shortly about the types of suggestion and then we will get back to the powerful role music plays in suggestion.

Types of Suggestion

In the book The Success System That Never Fails by W. Clement Stone three types of suggestion are defined as follows.

Suggestion- anything you see, hear, feel, taste, or smell. It comes from the outside. For example, a child learns to walk because he sees his parents walk. She learns to talk because she hears others talk. He gets ideas from books when he knows how to read.

Self-suggestion- the suggestion you purposely give yourself. It can take the form of thinking, seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, and smelling through the power of your imagination. You can picture word symbols, or say the words to yourself or aloud, or you can write them down.

Autosuggestion- is automatic. It is a suggestion from the subconscious mind that flashes to the conscious mind in the form of an image of seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, smelling or word symbols. It is deeply imprinted on the subconscious mind through suggestion or self-suggestion...

When music is listened to over and over again it's messages become autosuggestive.

Music is the most powerful tool of suggestion. When you hear a song that has music and a beat you like you feel it on an emotional level. Our emotions directly impact how we act in any given situation. A well disciplined person controls their emotions, directs them and in turn controls their actions.

As we listen to a song that we like as stated above we feel it on an emotional level and if we are bold enough we sing along and dance to the music as well. When we do this we are harmonizing with it on an emotional level.
